Niagara County AIDS Task Force Observes World AIDS Day




The Niagara County AIDS Task Force observed World AIDS Day on December 1, 2009 at the Niagara Arts & Cultural Center.

On December 1st every year, the world comes together to commemorate World AIDS Day. World AIDS Day was introduced in 1988 by the World Health Organization. This was the first time that attention around the world was focused for one day in the year on AIDS. It provides the opportunity to increase awareness of the seriousness of the pandemic.

The theme this year was “Keep the Promise – Universal Access and Human Rights.”

The schedule was as follows:

5:30 PM   Piano Interlude at NACC – Joanne Lorenzo
5:45 PM   Opening Remarks – Jimmy Rowe, Niagara County AIDS Task Force
6:00 PM   Native American Theme & Music – Daniel Hill Flute Serenade
6:15 PM   STARS Drama Group
6:30 PM   PLWA – Speaker
6:40 PM   Moment of Silence – Calling Out of Names
6:50 PM   Awards for Posters by Local Preparatory School Students
7:00 PM   Wendell Rivera, Latin Jazz Drum Solo & Closing
7:15 PM   Refreshments
