“Leadership” has been chosen by the World AIDS Campaign as the theme for World AIDS Day 2007 and 2008. This theme will continue to be promoted with the slogan “Stop AIDS. Keep the Promise.” – the World AIDS Campaign (WAC) emphasis from 2005-2010.
On December 1st every year, the world comes together to commemorate World AIDS Day. The theme for World AIDS Day has been determined by the World AIDS Campaign since 1997. World AIDS Day was introduced on December 1, 1988 by the World Health Organization. This was the first time that attention around the world was focused on one day in the year on AIDS. It provided the opportunity to increase awareness of the seriousness of the pandemic.
This year’s event (2008) will start at 5:30pm with a gathering at the Niagara County State Parks Prospect Point (near the Observation Tower) where the lights on the Falls will be red to represent the red ribbon for AIDS awareness and then blue to represent support of those who are living with the disease. We will observe a moment of silence then walk to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church on the corner of 2nd and Rainbow Blvd. The evening will include a candlelight vigil, memorial service, community guests, and light refreshments.
